Pictures of the space shuttle 'Discovery' landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It's coming back after a 13 day construction and maintenance mission at the International Space Station. It's also the final stop for the 27 year old ship, which has 39 space missions under its belt. The shuttle will be stripped of various components before its towed off to its final resting place as a museum display. Discovery's sister ships - Endeavour and Atlantis - are also scheduled to be retired later this year. It will effectively end U.S. manned space flight, and instead American astronauts will be flying into orbit on Russia spacecraft. NASA has stated its intent to design and build replacement ships, but budget disagreements have so far blocked any progress.

  • @aciamanusa Marconi only patented it, Alexandr Popov invented it. Radio i mean. Fainsworth patented TV tube, but his one was inferior to that of Zvorykin patented in 1925, but who cares... it didn't do u any good... see how u ended up...

  • @aciamanusa Zworykin tryed to patent his invention in 1923, but the american patent was issued only in 1938... the year the first TV station went on the air in Moscow... and the first Soviet TV set ''TK-1'' was produced !

  • @CLSkill I resent that. NASA's future is undeniably bright. As they co-operate with private enterprises space will become a lucrative place to fly and we'll be seeing many more launches. The new capsule is being launched in 2015 and once money is available again we'll see Moon missions and Mars missions.

  • wouldnt it be funny if it landed and we were all dressed as apes! XD lol

  • @WheelSlip8

Not to sound like a crackpot conspiracy theorist but...

Come quick, straight to hangar 18!

  • Ehhhh.....so NASA is gonna get taxi rides to space now from the former USSR! What was all that space race jazz for then in the 60s? Hmmmph, USA, super power.....my ass.

  • watching this makes me want to cry. sad that the shuttle program is done. all the launches and landings were magnificent, never boring. but they did not get enough coverage on tv.

  • ET, if your out there, please send something our way, quick, ANYTHING!! Because YOU and only YOU will be the only reasoning for America and a dead American public (who is more interested in watching the 13th season of Survivor) to return to the spirit wonder and beauty of Space Exploration.

...and now we return to our previously recorded ''Dark Ages'' after these messages.

    AP Press

    In London today, Lindsey Lohan....

  • R.I.P NASA

  • .. ... and now to be wisked away to one of Obama's "blue" states for display.

  • wat a beautiful shuttle farewell discovery.
