Lorenz Strange Attractor Evolution

The second of hopefully many strange attractor videos released by Bad Apple Visuals.

This is a video of a strange attractor orbiting a 5-dimensional point in parameter space while being influenced by random 5D force vectors. The camera is at a fixed point.

This system was animated and visualized using Direct3D via custom software written in C++.

The equations aren't for the typical Lorenz attractor, but from a paper Lorenz published in 1984, called "Irregularity: a fundamental property of the atmosphere". You can find a pdf of it here:

Watching this video again years later, I have to agree with the majority on the music being annoying. Since this is high rated result for 'strange attractor' search, I've swapped the audio. I like it better.

I don't have the values of the parameters anymore, no. I usually just meander about in parameter space until the attractor is visually appealing (I fought the urge to say "attractive"). From there I enable the 5-space force vectors, tweak the magnitude of the random impulses and the restorative force until it animates nicely, and then start recording frames.
