i worked for a guy one summer that was a tail gunner. he said he craped his pants every time he went up. i told him he was the most brave person i ever met, he told me the B17 was no fort in the sky. he had seen so many go down

Yep. I was there. I wondered why the big pause at the south end of the runway! I could see her stop, but didn't see why. Then she came taxing down with the wingtip bunged up!
Ouch!
It was a thrill to see those planes! In '43 or '44 when I was 5 or 6, a bomber (maybe a b-29) almost took the chimney off our house in Penn Yan. The pilot was a neighbor, and flew over two or three times to say hi to his mom. He got a bit too low the last time - I saw him wave a handkerchief in the window!

Oh yes I remember that... Mac was really upset, but good thing the guys at the hangar were eager to help!

An excellent perspective and audio
Could be Rutland VT too? Great job Sven!

Come to think of it, it couldn't possibly be Penn Yan. Penn Yan had trees along the taxiway that the B-17 became friends with.

Impressive video, but this is not the Penn yan airport!

My memory might have been a little hazy when I posted this. It was a few years after the fact. Maybe it was the Saranac Lake Airport.
