  • Colin has a Jackstad. The other bass in the background is mine. (unknown)

  • Colin uses the Bel Cantos. Most likely the medium or high tension. And just so you know, this is not Colin's youtube page--I just have a few videos of him since he's my pal.

  • Bronco boy---you're Joe, right? :-)

"not too bad" was completely a joke. It was great! Geesh. Calm down Bronco boy.

  • Colin studied with Larry Hurst at IU, and Bruce Bransby when he was at Aspen. Colin just left the Minnesota Orchestra bass section, and is now principal of the Rochester Philharmonic.

(this isn't Colin's youtube page, just to let you know--I just have a few videos of him on my page, since we're pals)

  • Excelente sonido!

  • This is absolutely phenomenal playing. The tone is magnificent. Everything is perfect. The bow strokes here are all so well executed. Great intonation. I could go on forever, this is so damn good!

  • I couldn't agree more with you. Sure, the bass sounds nice (actually, it sounds and PLAYS great! I know, 'cause I was lucky enough to be his roommate and got to play it a few times), but the instrument is totally useless if you don't know what to do with it. Now, this guy can do whatever the hell he wants, with whatever you give him!

  • Ok, I know this is not Colin's channel. Having said that, maybe you could pass this on to him: Believe it or not, the thing that really impresses me about this video, is the sustained G's in octaves; the "punch" in the low G, the exact same lenght in the high G's with the same exact sustained sound and dynamics (no accents, not increase or decrease in sound at all) and the unbelievably perfect timing. That's exactly the essence of being a bass player: the right notes at the right times!

  • I need to learn that hammer stroke pronto. IU audition in two weeks! I play french bow. Tips, pointers, anything?

  • Umm what kind of basses does he have? i saw there are two in the background?

  • lol
