Patriotism is fine but it should not be blind. Take the case of the Indian army which prefers to equip itself with foreign weapons. Encouragement of Swadeshi should not be at the cost of quality. It was this blind adherence to Swadeshi that encouraged the black market in the pre-liberalization era.

In theory I'd agree that any country should be free to develop nukes...except that the US is in the unique position of having actually used one in combat and knows firsthand the awful responsibility of having killed civilians with it.
Let's just say that the "enlightened" world (for lack of a better word--feel free to criticize this) does not relish a world in which countries still grappling with border disputes, political instability and religious hocus pocus are in possession of nukes.
