This year BFAD has created the BFAD/Container Project. Architect Adam Kalkin partnered with BFAD to create the 3-container "BFAD Pup Tent".
BFAD (Bicycle For A Day, Every Day) is a global initiative founded by actor Matthew Modine that empowers individuals to take simple steps to improve the environment. ( http://www.bicycleforaday.org )
BFAD is collecting disused and broken bicycles in several NYC areas. These bikes will be packed into two 40 foot containers. One will be shipped to Iraq and the other to Afghanistan.
Once the containers arrive, they are joined with two additional containers; the lower containers become a bike repair shop and a bike store to sell the rebuilt and repaired bikes. The upper container becomes a cultural exchange/education room.
Choosing to bicycle instead of using petroleum powered vehicles is one thing that has an immediate
positive impact on the environment. In order to create a global bicycle event, BFAD recognized the
need to get bikes to people who don't own one.
