@GhostPirate6 The CanCan being bastardized! HAHA! That's like someone in 150 years saying that someone has bastardized a pole dance!

@lordofpowies it's cool that you have a passion for this film and acknowledge that there are in fact films that do leave great impacts upon society. There are movies I just adore too, but I gotta disagree on this one. It's not a bad movie but it has A LOT of flaws that you are overlooking that clearly stops it from being on that list of fantastic movies.

@MilaMango108 Nini not Nina.

My god this is such an incredible movie. It's really wierd at the beginning if you're too stubborn to give it a chance, but it's definitely one of the best movies ever made. An awesome example of how movies can still have the same impact as movies like Citizen Cane and Psycho and all those names that are synonimous with moviemaking (those are just two hastily chosen examples; there are many more obviously). Moulin Rouge deserves to be on that list, plus it has a better soundtrack!

@Athena908 You're welcome. There used to be a photobucket page with pictures of the girls with their names, but it seems to be gone now.

@GhostPirate6 Thanks so much. Been trying to figure out who's who forever now.

@GhostPirate6 Oh and the legs at :50 seconds is Spanish as well.
-
@Athena908 That's Pearly Queen. Spanish has a dark purple outfit with grey petticoats. During the beginning she's the one running right behind School Girl and dances with Tartan. The camera focuses on Spanish and Tartan during 1:45 when the girls split.

I watched the special features and watching this scene again you can see the rivalry between the dancers, it's wondrous! Nina is amazing, as is Travestry. I still can't believe people DIED doing this dance. This version is fantastic and the costumes are just perfect! I want a dress like that ;-;

Is the dancer with a black dress and green trim, with what looks like white stitching, suppost to be Spanish or Pearly Queen?
@Shoe3003 They weren't supposed to be having fun. In this movie it was choreographed to look like a fight. All of the dancers were trying to outdance the other. Especially Nini and Travesty. And I completey 100% DISAGREE when you said the CanCan was bastardized, ruined and destroyed. It's a Hell of a lot better than the traditional kind that we're used to.

The customes were amazing and the choreography was stunning. The can-can is a dangerous dance to do. This style was to be a face-off or cock-fight (as Caroline O'Connor (Nini) said in the special features) with Travesty and Nini, the girls surrounding them is sort of like a ring. Having to dance in custom and at a fast pace to keep up kodos to all of them for doing this.
