Terrafugia Transition Roadable Aircraft. www.aircraftreporters.tv 's Editor-In-Chief Dan Johnson talks to Anna Mracek Dietrich of Terrafugia about their very unique "Roadable Aircraft"
Whilst you have to operate it from a designated paved airfield, the market is limited to pilots who want a plane but don't want to pay hanger fees. So why not just buy a better performance trailable plane, & tow it comfortably to the airfield in your SUV.
I think as both a car & airplane it's limited. Low ground clearance makes it only operable from paved runways, & it would be a nightmare to land in a decent xwind. U wouldn't want to drive it great distances either as a car. Better off with a great amphibious trailable plane instead.
Interesting comment about fences/gates around GA airports. Im in Australia, & my local field was just forced forced by OH&S to not allow any public vehicle access onto the field at all. I would assume that increased insurance premiums to enable vehicles onto a field will also play a factor in whether the Terrifugia will succeed or not. If policy dictates that the flying car can only be used on private property, then there will be no reason to own one. Ie it still needs a paved airstrip by the l
Even many GA airports have fences nowadays. Why, I'm not so sure. Will these fences and gates act as a barrier to pilots trying to drive off airport property?
Seems like something that at best would be only marginally sutable as either an aircraft or a land vehicle.

Brilliant and fantastic. It's set to hit the market end of 2012.
I wish this project the best - it will change the world.
