Xubuntu 9.10 installation, customized to create a full-screen unified multimedia desktop, without sacrificing access to system information or at a loss of system resources. (My settings in Compiz, however, do use more resources than needed)

The UI is in full 3D, this is being managed by my video card, saving the CPU from the terrors of trying to render all of that out. Being a 3D desktop environment, many windows, effects, and desktops can all be ran at once and cause little to no CPU utilization.

Many programs were used to create this look and feel. The names of each application, and its location to download it, can be found below. Those that can are using Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala) can use the sudo apt-get install *program* commands from your favorite terminal application.

  • this was really cool! thanks for all the details in your notes, did you have to do something specific to get it to ur video card so that ur cpu wasnt workn it? (sorry, not the brightest crayon when it comes to computers)
