this is an acoustic guitar lesson for "Man Of Constant Sorrow" by the "Soggy Bottom Boys" this is done in standard guitar tuning but is played in the same style. I play it with a capo on second fret. I also have a unique mid 8 / melody section that is really simple but helps to break the verses up. Check out our guitar lesson site for the tab.

  • your lessons are great. your speaking and instruction are great. I've learned several songs with you before. Am just a beginner, but i can't get that B chord to sound right. from the cappo, it's the first finger 2nd fret on E string, and 3rd finger on 4th fret on A string, right? It sounds weird, checked my tuning. not sure. thanks

  • @surfrider8900 from the capo - 2nd fret A string, 4ft fret G - Everything else muted. It is a power chord position of the B.

  • @y0uRmOnKeY Thanks it's a tuning I figured out when playing alternative rock (several alt bands use it) plus I've found some country players using the tuning (and now a blue grass player in this movie). I'm still wondering why the capo is used live. Perhaps someone can explain it to me :D

  • @Onewitnessus When I play it with a capo, the guitar is tuned to drop D, and the B string is taken up to D as well. The capo is just added.

    Good ear!

  • @fridebloney It's still normal tuning, a capo only changes the key. And while technically that "E" is actually "F#" it's easier to simply call the cords by their open tuning name.

  • How do you say normal tuning and then use a capo??

  • Come on man, no link to your website?

  • nice thanks for the awesome video lesson!

  • @y0uRmOnKeY I did not know that I'll have to look at it because my ear tells me it's a drop D tuning with the B string taken up to a D as well (my ear can be wrong sometimes)

  • @Onewitnessus Lol yeah, but the guy who performed the song for the movie (Dan Tyminski) actually uses a capo. He plays it differently though, with the capo barring the 3rd fret as seen at the crossroads performance

  • LOL did you say "could ya blow me?" at 1:58?

  • I taught him everything he knows.
