When you are on the road and away from home or cafes, it can be hard to find espresso coffee, or more exactly, GOOD espresso coffee. I have long been searching for a solution and have been using a nice gas burner and stovetop espresso maker for road trips but airlines don't like you taking gas bottles on board these days! I have just bought a Handpresso, a small unit that uses a pump action much like a bike pump to store 16 bar pump pressure for espressing a single shot of coffee. This video captures me in my Alice Springs, Australia, hotel room and is the second time I used the device. Of course, I use Baristador Coffee, what self-respecting espresso evanglelist would use anything else! Anyway, one note - THE VIDEO QUALITY IS MEDIOCRE, shot with my really cheap Jazz USB video camera which I bash around on the road. This was shot simply for my blog rather than to win a Golden Globe award, so please be kind and, coffee lovers, enjoy. Yours in the spirit of espresso, Steve Davis.
Wonderful Steve
Thank you for the step by step detailed Video - I would have liked the tamping section left in.
What pressure do you tamp to and how do you measure it?
Is there someway of regaining those things you lost in this process - is there a way to make the most of baristador - keeping its brilliant flavour?
