One of the best movies ever! I think it was written by Stirliing Silliphant, a true master for sure.

I thought they were 5 inches from turning over? All I remember is they were very, very close...

The Poseidon Adventure has a cult following amongst some of the gay community because it's so camp and over the top. There was a spoof musical written about it (some clips of it are also on youtube, it's called 'Poseidon! an upside down musical') - it's pretty funny.

Leslie Nielsen didn't have a clue that he will be making comedy & making people laugh just 15 years later!
This was a Disaster Movie that was not a Disaster at the Box Office! Very Good Movie! Better than the new one they made!!!!
I watch this movie at a twin cinemas complex in 1975, I was just 10 years old!
Did this actually happen or was this a REALLY loose take on the Titanic story?

The story is fixtional but there is a true story of when the writer of the original book, Paul Gallico was on the Queen Mary in the North Atlantic back during the early fourties when it caught in a terrible storm and almost turned over if it went another five foot.
An experience the writer carried for many years.

I don't mean any disrespect from this question: was the writer of the book this movie was based on gay? I'm gay, and I would love to know. I think from reading the plot of the book that I recongize a kindred spirit, but I may be wrong. This movie is one of the great works of popular culture!

He wasn't, but Paul Gallico did have a few wives I think. The book is a bit bleaker than the movie, but its a great read.
