Part 2 The action is steadier, without the rope coming on and off a pulley (this is more of an issue with double pulleys). It saves a hell of a lot of grubbing around on the workshop/belfry floors :-)

A number of reasons. The grooves in the wheels are a little shallow so I wanted to keep the ropes tighter to avoid slippage. The height of the ringing room was depicted by Duncan’s photography equipment which needs to pass underneath. This was taller than I would consider to be optimum, so we discussed the idea of ringing the bells off of removable staging, which would have put the ringers 18 to 20 ins higher, bringing the sallies into the pulleys. They actually handle very well as they are.

@anonmonen but you are listening them from one side - not underneath! We did some more tweeking after this was taken anyway.
