7 - Pocahontas, VA - HIGH SCHOOL - PHS

June 2008 - Last graduating class June 6, 2008. After 99 yrs, school is being closed down. Housed 186 kids this past year in grades 6-12. From news: Closing Pocahontas High may be one more step toward erasing a community that was put on the map for coal miners in the 19th Century and once boasted 5,000 residents. Today's population approx 411. Kids will be sent to Tazewell or Graham for school now. One more blow to Pocahontas.

I am sure you do! I am sorry they didn't find some other way to work things out for you kids. It's such a shame they closed the high school. I love that town. Perhaps as time goes on and this school year progresses, you will discover some advantages to the new school. It has to be very difficult for all of you and I feel for you in this transition.

i miss this skool SO MUCH!! i was in4 th grade when they closed it!! and no wi catch the bus there i wish they wouldnt have closed it so wat if alot of people didnt go there or graduate there if they would have waited a couple years they would have had alot of kids goin there
