Sitar lesson with my guru Ustad Surinder Mann. Malkauns uses a five note scale: Sa, komal (flat) Ga, Ma, komal Dha and komal Ni. In western terms this is a minor pentatonic scale with a flat 3rd, 6th and 7th. I have been playing sitar for about 15 months now.

  • But that would mean I only can learn mid-morning ragas since that is when my lesson is.

  • Upon reflection, I'm playing this faster than I can. I do have a tendency to rush and the faster figures at the end sort of fall apart. This was the second take and we didn't want to spend all our time doing this over and over again so sometimes you just have to let go.

And in spite of years of yoga, I still can't sit cross-legged, much less in gomukhasana/sitar player pose so be kind :)
