  • Cool...I shot prelims for Drum Corps World Magazine that year...couldn't get a pass for finals..Got some tickets from Bob Fields. That was a great finals.

  • I was there, Mile High Stadium Denver, CO 1978 Phantom's brass line was amazing and just when you think that it is all about the Baritones. the Sops came at you with amazing precision and clarity - Legendary drum corp

  • Who was the brass caption head for 1978 PR? I know Jim Wren was the arranger, was he the caption head as well?

  • @sdingeswho I agree in 78, but I was in the stands in 79 and I thought the Blue Devils had won. But I walked away humming "Let it be Me" lol. Probably the best closer ever. As for political judging, there is no doubt Blue Stars should have won in 72, IMO.

  • This was a moment in history for drum corps; the first time I think there was ever a flag change during the show!!!!!. I remember seeing the flag change for the first time in Stillwater, Minnesota earlier that summer.

  • DCI judging blew a few in the early years, this year, for sure, and '72 (Blue Star)

  • @buttongod Thank you xDDD

now i just need to get accepted =]

  • @Drag2hand , "Amen!" to all the wins that Phantom *should* have had --- I can't vouch for the 89 and 96 shows, but I'm *very* familiar with the late-70s programs (my "focus" in terms of drum-corps is that era), and at least 2 of those, probably 78 and 79, should have gone to Rockford. "Dittoes", also to your observations on the often "political" nature of DCI's judging, the most egregious example of which is '75 (love that Scouts show, but the scoresheets are "hinkey", esp. the M&M Execution).

  • @sdingeswho Any time Phantom gets second, means they should have gotten first. Judges play favorites and prefer giving other corps first. With that logic you could say that their first win was in 1977, 78, 79, 89, 96. They should have gotten a higher placement in 2003 and 07. Also should have gotten 1st in 06
