This tutorial will guide you through importing your contacts from a CSV file into UGAMail. Please view the documentation page for instructions on how to export from Thunderbird. 1. Export your contacts to a comma separated values file in the program that contains your contacts (i.e. Thunderbird).
2. Set up an account in Outlook 2007 using the Exchange setup instructions located on this website.
3. Open Outlook 2007.
4. Click on File and then go to Import and Export...
5. Choose the option Import from another program or file (highlighted by default) and click Next.
6. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next.
7. Click on Browse to open the file selection dialogue box. Locate the csv/contacts file on your computer.
8. If you already have contacts stored in UGAMail, you may wish to select Do Not Import Duplicate Items to avoid multiple copies of the same individual. Press Next.
9. Select the folder entitled Contacts underneath Mailbox-Your Name. Click Next.
10. Click on Map Custom Fields. * You will need to match the fields from the left column (your CSV file) to the column in the right. Outlook attempts to match contact labels based on their name, but some programs will assign different labels for the same information. For example, Thunderbird labels email addresses as Primary Email, Secondary Email etc., while Outlook names them E-mail Address, E-Mail Address 2 and so on. You will need to match these fields by dragging the label in the left column over to the right column (e.g. drag the text Primary Email over to the label E-Mail Address and Secondary Email over to E-Mail Address 2 * This may take a while to do, and some of the labels are obscure. Located on this page is a table with Thunderbird\'s label for each field and the Outlook equivalent. * Clicking on Next will show you the data from the first contact in the list. This can help with matching. Pressing Previous will go back to the field labels. * You do not need to match every single label--only for information you know is populated for your contacts. That is, if you only have names and email addresses for individuals in your addressbook, you only need to match the email and name fields. However, if even just one of your contacts has home address information or a phone number, this information will not appear unless you match the fields for these properly.
11. Once you are done matching the fields, hit OK. Then click Finish.
12. The contacts will begin importing, which make take a while. Your contacts will appear in the UGAMail server after a few minutes once the import process is complete.
