If you look on Google Earth, you can find La Chureca. It's on the northwestern part of Managua, on the southwestern coast of Lake Managua. La Chureca will not be there for much longer, however. The Spanish government purchased the land from Nicaragua, and will be building a recycling plant there after covering the landfill. They have promised to give both housing and jobs to the people who currently live there, but the locals are not convinced. Only time will tell how the whole thing unfolds.
@jakubgalczynski its not an actually "city" .. its inside managua the capital "la chureca" is a slang phrase not the actually name of the place.. just google la churecha and you should be able to find missionary groups that travel there.. hoped that helped
@jakubgalczynski Hmmmmm... well,,, I don't know exactly where it is within Managua.. It's in the actual city of Managua and it's the city dump. Maybe it's not on the map under the name "La Chureca"??? Not sure.. If you speak Spanish, I can give you the email address of my friend (the pastor) who goes there to visit my little Luis and his family. Or-one of my other friends who live in Managua--I have one who speaks pretty good english!
where is la chureca exactly? Im trying to find it on google earth and no luck. Im doing a project and Im having a hard time finding info. Managua, Nicaragua.....where? please help
I've been there and you have to see it to really understand. Our church has done clinics here for the past 3 years.
We met a little boy, Luis, who was clothed in only a filthy pair of underwear. We've seen him every year since and now are able to send his family money through a local pastor for food, clothing, medical supplies, and even a few small toys! It was the highlight of our trip last year to visit his family with a trunk full of clothes, shoes, toys, etc and to see the smiles!
