I Write The Songs was written by the former Beach Boy Bruce Johnston. The song reached no. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 in 1976, Barry wasn't too keen to record the song but it has since gone on to be one of his biggest and most popular songs ever.

@onejanedoe2003 You're missing the whole point of the song, Barry really was against recording this song because he thought that he'd be regarded as big headed, he says that music writes the songs, I need to read ''Sweet Life'' again as i'm rusty, lol. OK someone else will explain, hopefully but I promise that Barry is not being egotistical when he sings I Write The Songs.

There is an interview on YT between Joan Rivers and Barry, and he says that he fought against doing the song because he thought it was cheesy too, until he really understood the lyrics. In other words, it isn't HIM singing, it is MUSIC singing, not just a piano or violin or guitar, but music itself. Kind of neat when you think about it, no? :)
