  • Hi Ralfy, my first comment here. I'm been following your vlog for a while, and as an aspiring malt-enthusiast, I've found it to be quite the indispensable resource! So thank you!

Also, I just got a bottle of Laphroaig 18yo for my birthday, and it really is quite the different whisky compared to the 10 (I didn't get to taste the 15). Much mellower and sweeter, and maybe more balanced? Anyway, I hope you get around acquiring a bottle for yourself, because I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

  • @kallepellereino

bought a bottle recently to review next year and it is a good 'un ...91/100

  • Ralfy, I love your whisky reviews. I find Laphroaig 15 year very tasty - you didn't seem impressed but I wonder if some of the fragrance wasn't whisked away by the stiff wind you encountered on top of Mount Merrick? Also I am looking forward to your review of other Laphroaigs such as the 18 year!

  • @grdonner

fragrance was definitely whisked away but compensated for by the fresh air and view !

  • i think its kind of funny how the highest summit of in the borders of scotland is actually below my house. air's probably cleaner though. if i ever get the chance, i'll have to check it out. also, what laphroaig would you recommend? 10,15 or quarter cask?

  • @terroriticus

    ... definitely quarter cask !

  • Great but surprisingly brief review. It is very smoky drink that carries a lot of wooden notes indeed. Funny that you were mentioning the blending of two different whiskys as I just started doing that very recently...

    Best regards from Macau, China.

  • @ralfystuff: Haven't tasted the 18 yet but going to sometime soon. Asked some people who already tasted the 18 and they told me it's a bit smoother than the 15, more complex in nose and taste, but not so peaty.

I'd love to find out how it compares to Lagavulin 16.

  • Having a dram of 18 y.o. I must say: A HUGE improvement.

  • Quarter cask is amazing! It's my favorite whisky of all time!

  • The 18yo Laphroaig is superb!!

  • you're a hard man to please Ralfy! - I look forward to the review
