Anti-seize keeps the threads from getting stuck or "seized" in the head. You apply anti-seize to the threads of the new spark plugs before you screw them in. I use anti-seize, as soon as I get a car, on all wheel studs, so you aren't stuck on the side of the interstate at night trying to get a lug nut off that some baboon overtightened at the tire store or brake shop or just rusted solid. It is amazing on bolts, just don't use it on brakes.
