Lethal Performance 2012 BOSS 302 Stock Exhaust Comparison

Since we took delivery of our performance white 2012 BOSS we haven't had much time to mess with it. However we found some time today and wanted to see more about this side exit exhaust feature we've been hearing about. So we took he out in front of Lethal headquarters to make a few soundclips. With the stock exhaust setup the car sounds so tame. Very similar to our grabber blue 2011 5.0L. For a mustang especially a specialty one like the BOSS I personally believe it should be a little more aggressive.

So after we made the clip of the stock setup we put the car on some jack stands and took our first peak at the side exit exhaust. How it's setup is at the rear of the stock h-pipe there's legs that branch off to the side pipes. On those legs closer to the H-pipe there's a section where the pipes are connected and you can see what looks like a gasket in between the sections. Using a 15mm socket we removed the bolts the section to separate that section and pulled out the restrictor plates. Those plates (baffles) prevent the flow of exhaust through the side pipes. Once removed we reinstalled the 15mm bolts and put the car back on the road.

Immediately after starting the car you could hear the difference. Now this is how a mustang should sound. Take a listen for yourself and you'll see what I mean. It's a major improvement over the stock exhaust with the side pipes closed.

Now don't get used to this for too long as we've got major plans for this BOSS. As a matter of fact shortly after this video was made the car made it's way over to Power by The Hour Performance in Boynton Beach where we started tearing into it with our good friend, editor of 5.0 Mustang Magazine Steve Turner.. I read in mmff that someone missed a shift once in a boss 302 during a race and the computer recorded it revving over 9000 thousand rpms without any problems. And the kid who said supercharge this thing, it would make insane power but this is a boss302. It was never intended to be supercharged. It was meant to be high revving raw n/a power since the first one. Supercharging would be kinda un-original thing to do. Make high power naturally aspirated gives you somewhat bragging rights.

We've been shifting our car at 8000rpms at the track. Although I'm sure you could see 9000 on a missed shift that's not something you'll want to do all of the time. As far as supercharging goes there's nothing un-original about it. It's a mustang. Nothing more, nothing less. It's meant to be built and beaten on. End of story.

Love what you guys have been doing with the new 5.0's and GT500's.

I saw the write on 5.0 Mags website about the Vortech kit you installed on the boss. But I didn't see what boost levels you were running with that 6 rib. Do you guys come up to Orlando ever for events ? I'd love to see these cars in person.
