This lesson is all about pages. Do your best to translate the sample sentences before the end of the intro song.
There are three kinds of pages that we will discuss in this lesson. The first two are made out of paper and the third one isn't. Focusing first on the two kinds of pages made out of paper, it is important to distinguish between numbered pages like the ones you might find in a regular book, and the kind without numbers as you might find in a notebook. The notebook kind of page is referred to using the word лист and the regular book kind is referred to using the word страница. So, having made this distinction let's get straight to sample sentence number one:
Он написал ей записку на тетрадном листе. (He wrote a note for her on a notebook page.)
The focus word here is a form of тетрадный and тетрадный is the adjective form of тетрадь and both тетрадь and тетрадный mean notebook. Notebooks may also be referred to using the term записная книжка.
Sample sentence two goes like this:
Уголок одной из страниц был загнут.
Уголок одной страницы был загнут.
(The corner of one of the pages was folded.)
First of all уголок is a small угол and secondly the focus word for this sentence is a form of загнуть and загнуть is the perfective form of загибать and both words mean to fold or to turn.
It is now time for sample sentence three:
Кто-то исписал одну из страниц.
Кто-то исписал одну страницу.
(Someone covered one of the pages with writing.)
The word of interest here is a form of страница and страница means page, as previous noted.
The fourth sample sentence goes like this:
Одна страница отсутствует.
Одна из страниц отсутствует.
(One of the pages is missing.)
The focus word here is a form of the word отсутствовать and отсутствовать means to be absent or to be lacking.
And finally we have:
Одну страницу вырвали.
Одну из страниц вырвали.
(One of the pages has been ripped out.)
The word of interest here is a form of вырвать and вырвать is the perfective form of вырывать and both words mean to tear out or to pull up.
So, now it's time to talk a little about the third kind of page and although паж, as in a young person who attends to the needs of someone like a king or a member of Congress, is an obsolete word in Russia, it still gets used occasionally. For instance,
Он отругал одного пажа.
Он отругал одного из пажей.
(He scolded one of the pages.)
In NAG-DIP order the singular forms of паж include:
паж
пажа
пажа
пажу
пажом
о паже
In NAG-DIP order again, the plural forms of паж include:
пажи
пажей
пажей
пажам
пажами
о пажах
The focus words for this lesson include:
тетрадный (notebook)
загнуть (to fold)
страница (page)
отсутствовать (to be absent)
вырывать (to tear out)

@shtirlic76tube Thanks for clearing that up! ;)

@Ep1cure "был загнул" is incorrect
"был загнут" is correct, because it is a passive form
Active: я загнул уголок. I folded the corner
Passive: уголок был загнут мной. The corner was folded by me.
"был загнул" is some kind of mix of active and passive forms and absolutely incorrect.

Should the second sentence read '...был загнул.'?
