http://www.HorseTrainingTack.com If you want your horse to flex at the poll, lightly give to your hands and be more supple, this video is for you.

In this two-part video, reining and cutting horse trainer, Larry Trocha demonstrates how to use a German Martingale to help train your horse.

Larry explains the purpose of the German Martingale, how to adjust it properly plus he shows effective training methods to use with the martingale.

You can get the German Martingale that Larry recommends at this web page: http://www.horsetrainingvideos.com/tack/german-martingale.htm

Any questions you may have regarding the use of the German Martingale should be directed to Larry Trocha through his website, http://www.HorseTrainingVideos.com.

  • I just want to ask also,

What do you think about the Monty Roberts Join Up and the Pat Parelli Horse-Man-Ship Techniques?

Do you think that they are at all beneficial to a horse's training? or would they be a thing better to do without?

  • Claire,

I think different strokes for different folks.

It's all good in the right situation.

  • I am using a german martingale on my 3 year old and it has taught him to flex and bend wonderfully. I was having a problem in his early training of his sticking his nose up in the air and this corrected it in a nice way as he taught himself to bend. Thanks Larry

  • Hey Wings,

Good to hear you're getting such great results.

    Take care,

    Larry T.

  • Hi RomeoReiner,

    Glad you like the video.

I plan on having more clinics when I get moved into the new training facility.

  • id you dont mind me asking ...what reins are you using mr.trocha? just training reins? im having trouble finind reins with rings on them at our tack stores! any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Your videos are very straight forward and beneficial. Take care!

  • You said that this is designed to use with only a snaffle, so can I do as you said until while working my horse in the arena and correcting him BUT then put on his regular bit (a mexican bit) when we go on trail? He was used in the mexican rodeos and I rescued him about two years ago. He tends to bob his head and do a few hops when I try stopping him from a trot or lope. I know I'm in my seat, this doesn't happen with my other horses - just him. So I want to correct that.

  • Are there any problems with the horse wearing a breastplate while wearing a german martingale at the same time??

  • I'm from Germany and this isn't a German Martingale.

This one is called Thiedemann Rein. A Martingale is not fixed at the Reins.

  • I am able to get my horse to put his head down when I lift my reins, and give him a squeeze, but as soon as I release to him he brings his head up again.

He also has a bad habit of sticking his nose up in the air when I ask him to stop.

It's hard teaching him other things when I'm still teaching him where I want his head.

This martingale looks like it will be very helpful..

But since my horse already knows to give to the bit, should I not need it?

    Your opinion would be great!

  • How come this equipment is not suitable for a curb bit with shanks based on leverage?

    Thanks once again Larry///

  • he did mention briefly, saying you don't want his nose coming into his chest (hyperflexion)... I don't think the german martingale would actually have a setting tight enough to create rolkur. the horse in this video was juuuust right :)

  • Mr. Trocha, I have just bought that German Martingale on ebay. My horse shoots his head really high in the air when im trying to get him to stop, then when i open him up he always runs to the left instead of staying straight! Im taking in every tip i can from you! Hope it works & thanks!

  • I really wish that you would do a short video like this about NOT overflexing these horses. You touched on it here, but there is a LOT of it going on, and I noticed that those that do that on a continual basis, their horses are also constantly ringing their tails.
