May 03 2008 - Baby Sara eating in NICU

Sadly Baby Sara is not home from the hospital tonight. As of Sunday she was still not eating enough to convince the doctors she is well enough to go home. The news is disappointing because Katie and I have been so looking forward to having her home to sleep in her own crib and see her sisters.
The weekend got off to a troubling start. Friday Sara still wasn't eating much and what she was eating wasn't staying down long. When Katie and I got to the hospital Saturday morning the nurse recounted, in great detail, an episode of projectile vomiting. The event was so bad right before we started to feed Sara the nurse actually asked us if we had brought extra clothing for ourselves. When we told her we did not she covered us, the crib and the chairs with towels, as we began giving Sara a bottle. Sara, however, ate like a champ them promptly went to sleep in our arms.
Every time Sara ate for us this weekend she finished her bottle, burped and went back to sleep happy. Unfortunately things did not go as well overnight. The nurses say she ate a lot less and there was at least one more incident of vomiting. Tonight we are praying Sara has a good night and morning in the NICU. If she does there's a chance she could go home on Monday.
