The Apollo 11 mission — one of the worlds most significant achievements — had fulfilled President. Kennedys 1961 challenge to the nation: send an American safely to the moon before the end of the decade.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of this historic flight, the Newseum was host for a special program on the future of space discovery, A public event honoring Apollo 11s anniversary and NASAs ongoing exploration of space.

Veteran journalist Nick Clooney moderated a panel discussion with Aldrin, Charlie Duke of Apollo 16, John Grunsfeld, of the recent Hubble mission, and Goddard Space Flight Center deputy director Laurie Leshin.

  • Saving earth doesn't cost a thing, throwing resources at it isn't going to solve anything anyway. What will is political commitment, not just one nation or a few, but all of us. As for the earth dying, that's a load of bull. The earth will outlive us, wheater its habitable or not is up to us though.

Again though, doesn't take a great deal of money. Just commitment from people in nations all across the world. Landing on the moon again is an easier task, at least that isn't impossible.

  • Yeah i know, but you didnt get it at all, my comment was stupid tho

  • You do know the Department of Energy, which is better suited for such a mission has a bigger budget then NASA right? You should look at the federal budget sometimes, 18 billion sounds like a lot but its really isn't when you compare it to other things we spend money on.

  • something about air or gasses not being good conductors of heat? i think mostly the earth is warmed by the sun heating the ground and also the various warm water currents warming land masses. i could be 100% wrong though ; -P

  • i concur

  • i disagree with you nasa is just one branch of a bigger picture let me ask it this way:) why do you go in to space and study it? why do you need to know why do you have to make it happen the truth is why you want to go in to space and why they want you to go in space are 2 different things buddy your live stock and they are farmers for your mind slave boy!!

  • Could you tell me why the temperatues would drop>?

  • Bah no entiendo nada *****

  • markonim, With no moon, temperatures would drop,no tides, and darkness
