    This is good and you probably learnt a lot from it. I'd recommend to keep using / developing your own characters. Then you would get to practice that side of things (the characters could even be really similar to your influences). If the drawing/animation is just as good, It'd impress John K just as much I reckon (maybe moreso).

    I am am working on my original characters now. It was a great learning tool, it forces you to meet standards. John himself recommended to animate existing characters, because they are designed with functionality by experienced professionals. Efficient structure is the main lesson to learn. I copy hundreds of frames from good old days cartoons, but I decided to animate something I could actually work on. I understand your point, it does feel like I am wearing someone's clothing.

    True as is gets. John K. started out reworking Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and the like. Those eyeball movements are really creative and funny. Love this.
