As NautilusHydro points out, this shot is from the DYC. If you sit in the grandstands across the river on the mainland (the yacht club is on Belle Isle), you also get a very close view of the hydros, plus you are right next to the pits.

This is taken from the Detroit Yacht Club, a private club. The main grandstands are just across the river, you'll see them if you look close. A clip from the grandstands on youtube is: sMpdSykTcM0 ... can't get it to accept the full url in this comment.
The course is egg-shaped with this turn being very small and the far turn large.

I can't believe how close the spectators are. I love the races and I hope they keep getting better. Thanks for the great video

Can someone answer some questions for me? Im from Seattle, our course is WAY far out from the viewing area. I'd like to go to Detroit next year, and sit where this was shot. Where is this shot from, does it have a name?
Also, is the Detroit course a tri-oval or what???
