If I am going to be mean (which I rarely am), I would say that Reggie Griffin chose an odd title for this song, as his vocals are so much like Larry Graham's, it should be called "Be Larr-Ay" instead. But, I am a kind spirit. lol. It's a great, funky jam from 1982 on the Sugarhill subsidiary Sweet Mountain Records.
Bassist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Reggie Griffin is a rare talent and surely was the secret weapon Sugarhill used to get their special sound. Reggie Griffin played on numerous early hip-hop records. As a solo artist, he cut two LP's. "Mr. Everything", probably his nickname (a rightfully earned one), came first, then the more electro-techno-funk'ish "Hot Fingers" in 1984, following a label shift to Qwest and a shortening of his stage name to just "Griffin". Before the departure form Sugarhill, Reggie cut a cult electro single as Reggie Griffin & Technofunk called "Mirda Rock". He was also a member of The West Street Mob. Reggie's history goes way back, way back. He was the lead singer and guitarist in the band Manchild on the Chi-Sound label in the 70's; a group that also included Daryl Simmons and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds. Griffin's also toured with the Isley Brothers and is a busy session guitarist.
