"Irksome" Gay Marriage and Equal Rights

My commentary on the LA Times California section headline "Protests Irk Supporters of Prop 8". Also a rebuttal of two of the more often expressed support for Prop 8 and opposition to gay equal rights and the right to marry equally.

Gays have equal rights. They have the right to marry someone of the opposite sex, just like we heteros do. No one has the right to marry someone of the same sex - not they, and not us. If they demand the right to do that as well, then they are not campaigning for EQUAL rights, but rather for an entirely NEW right to be introduced. That in itself is not illegitimate, but keep the terminology straight, guys: this is NOT a matter of rights being UNEQUAL as it is now.

@BanGayMarriage well one thing is for sure punkin - your rationale is so skewed you'd never make a good atheist. which explains a lot. ignore the marriage debate and you'll find that the LGBT community is still denied a myriad of rights ie., the inability to serve in the armed forces. youtube doesn't allow enough "characters" to list all the rights we are denied. but as the old generation passes away and the young take power - legalized discrimination will end and victory will be ours!

@bbs5ekata i say the government should have no recognition of any marraige, everyone is seen as an individual... our relationships are none of their concern, it should not affect our rights or our taxation. Even if your not married but live with your partner, the government wants all the details in your tax return...
