I had the opportunity to ride Amtrak from NYC to DC yesterday. They were offering a sale and a sleeper compartment added only $13 to the fare. This even included dinner. The sleeper compartment was great. It was private, and quite comfortable. Two people could easily travel a long distance in there. I tried to capture the details in a guided video tour.

  • how cramped is it when the two people are sitting facing each other? it seems they would not be able to comfortably stretch their legs? also, do those seats recline? they seem like they're in a fixed position?

  • @cutieindc I was traveling alone, so I didn't get to actually experience how it would feel with two people. Nevertheless, it felt as though it would easily accommodate two. It wasn't cramped at all. The seats, as best I can recall, did not recline except to fold fully down to become the bed. They were, however, quite comfortable.

  • Ummm....What exactly is "Penn Central Station"??? LOL! Do you mean Grand Central Station or Penn Station? Two separate things. There is no "Penn Central Station" :-)

  • @shamalama68 You're right, my mistake. I meant Penn Station.

  • Wait... how did you ride a sleeper NYC to DC? Unless you got off at Alexandria, all sleeping car trains do not allow local travel NYC to DC.

  • @LIRR175 You're right, I got off in Alexandria. I just said DC because it gives a better idea of the length of the trip. Alexandria is about 15 minutes south of DC. Good catch.

  • Excellent tour. Made me want to crawl in the top bunk and feel 'the rhythm of the rails'. I was impressed with how clean it appeared to be.

  • I loved your video :) It was great!

  • This is your private room , not private car. That would have cost an arm and a leg right?

  • Very Well Done, you should be working for AMTRAK

  • Terrific video -- thanks!

  • No no no my friend....those hooks in the ceiling aren't for bags... When the upper bed is folded down, there is a safety harness in case the passenger sleeping above rolls over- it prevents them from falling out of the bed. The harness attaches to the hooks in the ceiling. And the lower seats are to be pulled out by the attendant in your car- they come around and prepare the bed for you, they know how to do it, don't mess with it.
