Sissel - Ave Maris Stella (Hail, O Star Of The Ocean)

Sissel, the international singing sensation from Norway, is widely regarded as one of the finest and most talented sopranos in the world. Her crystalclear voice has made Sissel a national institution in Norway. Sissel has sung all over the world, selling over six million solo albums. She contributed the haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic. She has been doing great duets with singers like Placido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, Taro Ichihara, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Kurt Nilsen, Neil Sedaka and Josh Groban. A very remarkable voice you will only hear once in your lifetime.

This is a gorgeus perfomance by Sissel. Ave Maris Stella (Hail, O Star of the Ocean) is a plainsong Vespers hymn to the Virgin Mary. It is of uncertain origin and can be dated back at least as far as the eighth century. It was especially popular in the Middle Ages and has been used by many composers as the basis of other compositions. The creation of the original hymn has been attributed to several people, including Saint Venantius Fortunatus.
This is taken from her concert in the church of Røros 2007. Røros is a small city in Norway and also on the list by UNESCO.

This classic song sung in a beautiful classic way by Sissel. What a treat! It is sung with reverence and awe in a pure angelic voice. What more can one ask! It is a foretaste of what heaven is all about. Praise God for giving us a gift like Sissel!

Please don't have a problem with the pronunciation. Liturgical Latin is usually from the Italian tradition but they are others like Germanic Latin (often used in performances of the Brahms Requiem etc.). In the German way coeli is pronounced "tsoeli". I'm not sure if there is a Nordic pronunciation or variation but if everyone in the performance is using the same there shouldn't be a problem.
