Pilar Ortiz
watching time go by my bedroom window
Country: Chile
Year: 2008
Duration: 5'14''
This work explores the changing landscape of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, through the dissection of a window view. Pieces of the newly built skyline are opposed to a local scene that illustrates the life that will be lost, raising questions about the process of redevelopment that is sweeping across New York City.
Pilar Ortiz is a Chilean architect and media artist who studies the ongoing transformations of cities and cultural expression in public spaces. She's currently pursuing an MFA in Integrated Media Arts at Hunter College. Her investigations, video projects, and installations have addressed issues such as temporary cities, public housing, urban segregation, urban redevelopment, and public space as a terrain for social interaction.
