Thats because, the propellers provides the lift. That much you already know. The propellers twists up and down as they rotate. The propellers are rotating but stay straight or parallel with the ground. That mean its not providing any lift even though they are rotating. Once the propellers twist upwards at a small degree incline as they are rotating, it catches air and therfore provides lift for the helicopiter. All helicopiter work pretty much the same way.

Hey, I've always wondered... how is it that helicopters can have their engines running and their propellers going all the way, yet still be on the ground? It doesn't make sense to me. =\
