Afternoon of September 15, 2010. I am filming the hamlet of Wassaic segment of the Harlem Valley Line of Metro North railroad. This is the current end of the line. It used to be a thru line to Chatham, NY. That part is rail trail, existing, under construction, or planned.

I catch 5 trains, #982/682 arrives 4:21 at Wassaic. # 639/989 to NYC from Wassaic at 4:21. #949 arrives Wassaic 5:39. #691/990 to NY at 6:07. #94 at 5:39. $953 6:32. The double numbered trains are transfers to 3rd rail electric at Brewster, NY.

There are NO FL9's today. And most unusual, no red stripe cars. Red stripe cars are CT owned. Usually the Harlem trains have a mixture of blue stripe and red stripe cars. Three engines pull or push these five trains. #126 wears a striking Guilford style paint scheme. 126, built new for Metro North in 2008 in Brookville, PA. She is a model BL20GH. #213 & 218, built new by GE for Metro North with AC traction motors and retractable 3rd rail shoes. GE describes 213 & 218 as P32AC-DM.

I have ridden Harlem line trains many times, pedaling the rail trail from Millerton, NY, to the Wassaic Station, putting myself and bike on board. This is my first video filming of Harlem Line action. May there be many more.

  • I wonder why the Bl20gh aren't used for passenger service on the Hudson line. I think they can be used as shuttles between Croton Harmon and Poughkepsie.

  • @malikrthr1 I do not know. Do not see Long Island equipment either although all these commuter lines have a unified management. A guess: Maybe CT bought this equipment and so the equipment is used where it serves CT riders. Any other ideas? Anyone know? Thanks for asking. PS - Love UR Channel.

  • Part of the MTA capital plan or program was for some of the LIRR trains to get fixed in maintenance facilities along the Hudson line. Maybe it's in the works. I hope to see some LIRR trains along the Hudson line soon.

  • @malikrthr1 No freshly discovered hudson hulks being rebuilt at Croton? Just LIRR and Metro North stuffs?

  • @gmen2007champs The woods and stream were shot from the loop road off 22 through the hamlet center of Wassaic. Just south of the hamlet center.. The tripod straddles the road guard rail over the stream. There is only one side road on the RR (East) side of 22 between 10 Mile and Wassaic stations. Also see the remark by CQDX018. Thanks Chris.

  • @gjhgjh No prob, i see though you dont wanna give up that secret spot in the woods lolol

  • @gmen2007champs Yes, Wassaic Station is a good spot to catch a train. ! HEHEHE ! Wassaic station on NY Rte 22 south of Amenia and North of 10 Mile station. And set ups on a road thru the hamlet of Wassaic between these stations. Thank you Chris

  • where are you in the 3rd sot, looks like a good place to catch a train

  • @fgjfdgjf Yes they do. 90 miles each way by train plus the drive to the station. Not just Manhatton. White Plains, Brewster. On a north bound train, I got chatting with an official of the alternative tanglewood music festival. He was relying on a ride driving 55 miles from Stockbridge, MA, to pick him up at the Wassaic Station. Harlem line is now a stub. It used to junction in Chatham with the B&A. That piece is a rail trail.

  • @gjhgjh WOW the Harlem line really goes far out! Do people really commute from this area all the way the to Manhatten everyday?
