  • Hey Bob I am getting a hammer out of my toilet in the basement. it would not have the same set up would it?

  • @dragganforce No its not, however a slow close filler valve may help your situation+++Bob

  • Hey Man yeah I have done it before as well I have also encountered that same problem in a house before and I found most times it does not solve the problem. Sometimes it would stop for a few days but then the same problem came up again . I am a plumber in ontario , Canada so we here are aloud to install air chambers but personally I am not a fan . Since a mechanical water hammer arrestor is not that costly I prefer them over air chambers . I Do like your video's , so don't take it the wrong way

  • @wildman6911 No harm no foul! I never said this was the only cause or permanent solution to this problem.however seems like an obvious starting place and if it solves the problem, longer term than a few days, then its surly worth zero expense and little time and effort Thanks for watching and adding to the discussion! +++Bob

  • For your info draining the house does NOT refill the air chambers . When they become water logged they act just as if you dipped a straw into water then placed your finger on the top, when you bring the straw out the water stays in the straw. The cap on the ends acts like your finger on the straw so you are unable to break the vacuum even if you drain house. The proper thing to use would be a mechanical water hammer arrestor and this method does not need maintenance .

  • @wildman6911 Hey wildman, the logic of what you said seems so obvious you had me doubting myself! I took a piece of copper waterline and did as you said in a container of water and every time I removed it from the water (keeping it vertical) the water trickled out. don't know if it has to do with diameter of pipe or what. Try it yourself and let me know if you agree. Thanks for making me think!+++Bob

  • @wildman6911 You have a tube with one open end, the straw analogy.

Now test that same thing with a bucket. Preferrably outdoors =)

  • @lpoohbr ,,,I am starting to develop the same problem...how did you fix it...someone told me just to adjust the pipe straps holding the hot water pipe.

  • I live in an early 1900s apartment with those old water heaters. This happens whenever the heat goes on and it sounds like someone working in the other apartment!!! And the utility room is right below me.

  • I have that noise everynight when the temperature is cold, then the heating sistem start to make noise, banging so I bought a pair of headphones , I don't know how to fix that problem, you think I have to drain all the water in the furnace room?
