MHFU/MH2ndG Gold Rathian Solo Greatsword Guide

This guide primarily focuses on tackling Gold Rathian without using Fast Charge / Concentration. Gold Rathian depicted in video is HR9. I did multiple runs to test how this strategy will hold against larger specimens. The largest Gold Rathian I encountered was a staggering 2249, but as shown in the video, the tips of the wings are the most GS-Charge friendly hitzones.

Total time taken for Gold-Crowned HR9 G.Rathian : 12'35
Total time taken for Miniature HR9 G.Rathian: 8'35

I would recommend the full Rathalos X set, gemmed for Sharpness+1, Art of Unsheathing and AttUpLarge.

1. Fast Charge / Concentration is a nifty skill to have against Gold Rathian. Check out FaithHikari's video at www.youtube.com/user/faithhikari
2. Cutting the tail first can save a lot of frustration.
3. The trick to know when G.Rathian will do a backflip immediately after its fireball(s) is to note where you were a few moments ago when it started to fireball, if you were anywhere near G.Rathian, chances are it will backflip. If you approached it from afar, chances are it will just fireball. No backflips.
4. Don't even bother going for the head if you are using a GS.
5. This guide is only (note: only) applicable for Gold Rathian.

Can this be used for normal rathain btw?

@TheGunnerMoose It's been ages since I played MH. But if I'm not mistaken, normal rathians' weakness = head. The weapon will bounce if you attempt to whack the wings.

@ShimmerArc great guide! personally i've got problems with trying to break the head because its very resistent to damage... to increase ruby chances, I mean =P. yeah, I'm a greedy bastard, I know =D

now, one question. Have you ever notice non-rage movements of rathian somehow slow down a little when she is very weak? say, when you may capture her?
