Heavy Metal is most definitely an ageless classic. The Taarna segment is my ultimate favorite chapter in the movie. Mostly because of Taarna herself. She was badass.

@Flyingtart That's good to hear. I guess it has something timeless and ageless in it. I agree with that some parts of the movie weren't that special :) but Taarna is.

Watched the movie for the first time of my life on TV two days ago (no commercial breaks). I zapped around, a bit high on sleeplessness and found this movie. Even though I'm 19 years old I got that childhood feeling, like when everything was new. Some of the stories weren't that mesmerizing, but Taarna was for sure.

Have you seen Thor? very similar to HM, Fire and Ice, Willow, Clash of the Titans (original), Conan, dark Crystal and Army of Darkness. A retro style fantasy sword and sorcery throwback

And she has been your fave cartoon girl since you saw this at age 10, i adored her since i was 11 when i saw this on TBS and later when i bought it on video at 15 in it's uncut uncensored version. She had a nice patch of snow between the legs eh? and do you think she's up there with Cheetara, Adora from She-Ra, Teela from He-Man, Scarlett from GI Joe, Poison Ivy, Jessica Rabbit, Minerva Mink and other toon hotties? Did Thor reminded you of this movie?

So now Avatar is like a cross between HM, Ferngully, Last of the Mohicans, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Star Wars Trilogy, Total Recall, LightYears, Fantastic Planet, Castle in The Sky, Princess Mononoke and Dune all rolled into one, isn't that right? it's like Cameron loved that stuff since he is a Sci-fi/fantasy and animation fan and made a cocktail.

I didn't know that. That is pretty cool.

Cute isn't it that i had a crush on Taarna at 12? you probably remember Swat Kats and Bonkers. Did you know this movie influenced many others like Fifth Element, Avatar and more? James Cameron is a huge fan of this movie and the magazine and cite them as some of the many influences for his new work. You can tell Avatar was like HM in live-action at times! he did borrowed from Den and Taarna with the similar dragons, female warrior, climax of warrior/villain like in this movie etc.
This tune is simply mesmerizing. I've had it in my ipod for a year now. Especially the part beginning at 0:37 it is... unnatural. Childhood memories, the vanishing beauty of life, the magic we all felt when we were kids... somehow sad melody while endlessly comforting, granting the well earned sleep, like a dove folding its caring wings on my drained, depressed soul. Whispering "rest now, my child." I love you, Taarna...

So do i, Bernstein is one of the great composers and this score is one of his most brilliant and underrated.
