Born in Thompson, GA on May 5th 1898 William Samuel (Blind Willie) McTell was often given surnames by recording studios in the 20's and 30's such as Blind Sammy or Georgia Bill. Atlantic studios used the name Barrel House Sammy when they recorded "Kill It Kid" and Bluebird called him Red Hot Willie Glaze. However, Blind Willie never had a hit record and spent his life travelling from city to city playing his version of the blues for those that would listen. His sidewalk performances could be distinguished by Blind Willie's 12-string Stella guitar playing and storytelling blues style which earned him tips and wiskey. The auspicious Last Session tracks released by Prestige/Bluesville actually came from tapes recorded earlier salvaged from an Atlanta record store owner's trash.

A lot of people say that Louis Jordan was the first person to use the word "Rock" in the song Saturday Night Fish Fry, the lyric, "It was a-rockin". He gets all the credit for it..but, I believe this is the first song on record to use the term... "She want to shake it in the Cadillac, rock it in the Ford,
Do the right jumpin' on the runnin' board.
Rock hard, Don't jump, Kill it, kid."..lets give it to Blind Willie! Even though he probably stole it from someone else..he was good at that..lol
