Take cover. When a mass shooting occurs at a military base or college or private business, people often wonder what more could have been done to protect the injured.
University of Louisville engineering researchers are working on a solution. They are casting rubber, rock and plastic mesh into blocks of material that could be inserted into standard, hollow-core doors, cubicle walls, windowsills or tabletops—turning them into protective, armor like shields against a terrorists gunfire or hurricanes flying debris.
