The two most critical dimensions when working on the barrels of a shotgun are bore diameter and barrel wall thickness. It's easy to take these measurements when you have the right tools. In this GunTec presentation Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, introduces the tools and methods for taking these measurements. A Skeet's Bore Gage was used to take the bore diameter measurements while a Newboult and Thorpe Barrel Wall Thickness Gage was used to measure barrel wall thickness.

How much is your life worth? Take the gun to a gunsmith and have him remove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey I have another question, I have a mossberg 500 with a standard 26" mod choke barrel, and I fired a bad shell in it and the shell exploded rather than gently pushing the shot out, the barrel and walls are still the same as before and are un damaged, but the sides of the brass of the shell is stuck in it. I dont currently have $150 for a new barrel so how would you go about removing it? the gun still fires even with it, but the brass makes the shell difficult to eject effectively
