Remember when Soul Music had artists who made songs so beautiful you would shed tears. Well here is one for your heart , soul and mind when Black Artists made music so deep that the earth would spin on it's axis.

"The Closer I Get to You" is a song performed originally during 1978 by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. The song was written by keyboardist James Mtume and guitarist Reggie Lucas, two former members of Miles Davis' band who were members of Flack's band at the time. Released from Flack's album, Blue Lights in the Basement, it became a major crossover hit. It scored two weeks as number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in April, 1978, and also peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. [1]. It was eventually certified gold. It is one of the most familiar of all their duets.

  • Man, does anyone else get emotional when they see the pic of Donny next to Roberta?....Sad day in the industry when he passed for sure.

  • No one can touch this. Just pure, sweet music from the soul. They just don't make music like this any more =(
