TopLite Replacement

Yet another fluorescent lamp related video.

One of the 20 watt "TopLite" brand compact fluorescent bulbs in my dining room ceiling fan went out while I was eating so I went to change it after finishing my meal. Replaced it with an 18 watt GreenLite mini spiral. I'll be dissecting the TopLite later as well to see if it's a ballast problem or the fluorescent tube itself.

So far, this has been the second screw based Compact Fluorescent bulb I have burn out; the other one being a Lights of America 13 watt which lasted from 1999 to 2007.

Why dont you have bulbs in the other two lights on your ceiling fan?

Man, regardless of whether the ballast looks bad or not, it was because the bulb was burning out. In compact fluorescent bulbs, when they go, both the bulb AND the ballast goes, most of the time. They produce a very smokey smell afterwards. That's why I think ordinary fluorescent tubes are better then compact ones.

I think this guy knows how CFLs work: In which case what do you think it the best type of CFL: Mini-Spiral or Tubular, most of ours are Tubular, but we have recently got 2 8 Watt Mini-Spiral and 2 20 Watt Mini-Spirals, I don't really like CFLs over 11 or 14 Watts: too bright

he eats light bulbs. thats why home depot is out of light bulbs because its his grocery store
