The Pogues are a popular band of mixed Irish and English background, playing traditional Irish folk with influences from the English punk movement. They reached international prominence in the 1980s and 1990s before breaking up in 1996

Gangs of New York is a 2002 film set in the middle 19th century in the Five Points district of New York City. It was directed by Martin Scorsese, with Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis and Baby DiCaprio, and written by Steven Zaillian. The film is loosely inspired by Herbert Asbury's 1928 book The Gangs of New York

I come old friend from hell tonight
Across the rotting sea
Nor the nails of the cross
Nor the blood of christ
Can bring you help this eve
The dead have come to claim a debt from thee
They stand outside your door
Four score and three
Did you keep a watch for the dead mans wind
Did you see the woman with the comb in her hand
Wailing away on the wall on the strand
As you danced to the turkish song of the damned

You remember when the ship went down
You left me on the deck
The captains corpse jumped up
And threw his arms around my neck
For all these years Ive had him on my back
This debt cannot be paid with all your jack

And as I sit and talk to you I see your face go white
This shadow hanging over me
Is no trick of the light
The spectre on my back will soon be free
The dead have come to claim a debt from thee

  • @TheMrKoray bende neden Türk oldugunu anlamadım :P

  • i want this song in zagreb

  • @cerenimoon Well, the song doesn't get too specific about what happened. All we know for sure is the ship sank, the dude got himself safe while leaving his shipmates to die. The captain and crew are with the other guy come to get revenge. I think the other guy also survived, but only barely. No particular reason to think he's alive, just makes sense to me that the spirits would need a living person to hunt down their victim, why they're all lying in wait and he's not

  • is this video from gangs of new york?

  • @McMarcoP cool story bro, like it ;P

  • @TheMrKoray

Shane McGowan tells the story. He was listening to some radio station abroad when some listener asked for "Turkish Song" by The Damned; the DJ didn't know of the band, so he said that he was unable to find "Turkish Song of the Damned", and who sung it anyway. So Shane decided it would have been nice to write a "Turkish Song of the Damned".

  • @TheShorelessC Metaphor! Never thought of it that way!
