The Tuesday morning Outdoor Demo ride at Interbike 2010. It's an out and back loop, descending out of Boulder City in NV, a half way point with food etc, and then a long climb back to the Outdoor Demo location.

I missed the start of the ride and barely caught on. Since I wanted to film two friends in particular, I turned around when I saw the large group. I'd optimistically thought they'd be in there (I didn't know that a lot of people talk and hang out at the turn around point).

Beautiful day, a great day to start off a long day of Outdoor Demo stuff.

We'd driven down from the Vail area the day/night before, so things were a little hectic in the morning.

If you recognize yourself, post a comment or let me know.

Camera used: ContourHD1080p, at 720p x 60 fps settings, per YouTube user slowroadie. Edited on iMovie on a Mac.

  • I hear you loud and clear! I just tried my ContourHD yesterday for the first time (wow). I managed to shoot a trip around Laguna Seca Raceway, although not at impressive speeds. An overlay on my video should certainly show (continuous) fatigue, and it would NOT show power outputs that were at all "big". I don't have a power meter (really, I don't need one), but I can guarantee my efforts are not huge. Heartrate is another story! That would be scary! Thanks again!!

  • @tsara52 heartrate also declines with fatigue, i.e. as you get more and more tired it'll take more effort to elevate it to some "impressive" number. It's another number that isn't impressive when I talk about my HR - if I break 170 bpm I'm absolutely dying, and I seem to be in the mid 150s even on "medium easy" rides. My sweet point is 162-168 bpm - in the Francis J Clarke video from 2010, my HR was 169 when Cliff started his leadout, 164 when I started sprinting.

  • I take it you've seen dpouncy's videos with his overlay? If not, you should have a look.

  • @tsara52 I've seen the videos with overlay, and for a while I really wanted to include them. The problem is that they don't show fatigue, so when I'm struggling to put down 200-250 watts, it's not very impressive. It's something I may do in the future though.

  • We need to get you a Garmin and get an overlay going? Those descent speeds were fantastic. Good stuff as always.

  • @cfcycling I never broke 50 so it wasn't that fast, and I only had a 12, no 11. One day GPS maybe, but for now I'm struggling to keep power and HR going. I just removed the SRM spider from my bike for servicing, and I lost one HR strap and the other is kind of played (lotta spikes).

Still a lot of fun though, for sure.

  • I didn't mean to get the discussion of your video far afield! I'm 58 years old, and I'm also female. So, my maximum heart rate should be 165, and I am remiss in not knowing how high it actually gets. I know my resting rate is 45, but that's all I can say with certainty. It does seem to peak when I'm climbing (which I enjoy as much as you do!), but oddly sprinting doesn't seem as stressful. Your observations on your heart rate are fascinating, and I thank you!

  • GREAT video! The ride looked like terrific fun, and your commentary really added to that fun. Like all of your vids! Thank you!

  • @d25myaofg apparently it's a rider from CA. After all that. There's Quick Step team out there somewhere, not pro, not affiliated with the European Quick Step. I haven't gotten definite verification though.

  • Ever figure out who the QS rider was?
