The Western Roman General Flavius Aetius is about to give Atilla a whipping & save Western Civilisation & Europe from the barbaric hordes of the Huns. The battle of Chalons 451 AD aka the battle of the Catalonian fields wasn't simply a battle between 2 nations but an empire & its allies against an empire & its allies, the East vs the West, a coalition vs a coalition, a fighting style against the other. The Huns had many different tribes & ppls in their army including Scythians, Herulians, Scirians, Ostrogoths, Gepids, Alemanni, Bastarne & Rugii while the Western Romans had allies from the Visigoths, Sarmatians, Lombards, Alans, Burgundians, Franks & Saxons. At 1st there was a sort of race for a ridge but the Romans got on top of the ridge first & soon after the battle began. Both sides were roughly 30,000 each, although some accounts say that the huns were much greater in number. Aetius deployed the men in a formation to attempt to lure Atilla to the center, he deployed huge wings of heavy cavalry on each side, his Romans on the left & the Visigoths on the right & a thin center with Sangiban his men & the other less effective allies, Atilla on the other side massed his forces which were mostly light/heavy cavalry & horse archers & positioned himself in the center to attack the weakened thin Roman/Gothic center. At this point Aetius' plan worked cos Atilla attacked their center & got enveloped by the huge wings of Roman & Visigothic heavy cavalry. The battle dragged on & both sides took heavy casualties & both sides fought with ferocity but when night was approaching the Visigothic King Theodoric got killed & the Visigoths fueled themselves with anger & hacked the huns to pieces while the Romans kept holding on their side with no less ferocity. The battle went on even when dark fell but soon Atilla & the huns realised they lost a lot of men & it was all over for them so he sounded the retreat. The next day the Visigoths had gone to bury their king & proclaim his son as successor, The Romans readied themselvs for a possible attack but the Huns lost so many men that they withdrew. The Following year Atilla attempted to avenge his defeat at Chalons & launched another campaign against the Western Roman Empire but was again defeated by Flavius Aetius, one of the last great Roman Generals.
