Okay, so I'll get the "news" out, then tell you about him.
We're donating Samson to a program, where he can do W/T/C/poles/groundwork and never have to jump any big scary jumps again in his life. :) The stress was just too much for him, he was really unhappy, and it was hard to learn. He also has not so great conformation and if he were to jump 2'6"+ for an extended period of time, he'd go lame. It was a really hard decision, since he's my baby and I love him dearly, but I feel like this is best for the both of us. SO. He's still with me now, and I hack him around for fun. He loves it! After the horse show we started looking for a horse to lease (we're going to lease the next few, until I get to a level I'll be at for a while) and we "found" Rio!

Rio's one of my trainer's client's horses, and he's here for a 2 week trial.
He's a 17.2hh Oldenburg gelding, and a sweetheart!
Really honest, willing, forgiving, etc. I really like him!
After I'm done with this horse, my legs are going to be like rocks! haha. He's a big mover, with a big trot, and my legs are so sore from riding him the past 3 days :P

Purple coat: 1st time I rode him
Teal shirt/black vest: 1st lesson
Green shirt/black vest: 2nd lesson

gLeek :)

  • Big and pretty boy!!! You look really nice on him girl!!

I'm sorry about Samson :( I've been there twice with my two girls and even though it's the right thing to do for both of you, it sucks :( I feel for you! Hope you and Rio work out! I'm looking forward to hearing about him! :)

  • @Paintmare06 Thank you so much!! :D I'm looking forward to telling everyone about him!

  • So, in college horse shows do you draw random horses to ride or are there classes where you could, for example ride your own horse such as Rio. I'm just curious because I plan on riding on a college team after highschool.

  • @eminav15 At IHSA shows (Intercollegiate horse show association) you essentially draw random horses. If you are hosting the show, then you have a chance of drawing a horse that maybe you've lessoned on or something, but yes you draw random horses.. so get used to riding a bunch of different horse types in uncomfortable tack ;)
