Alicia performed "Little Drummer Girl" as an unknown artist back in 1998 and I just knew she was bound to blow up. There was just something that stood out about her at the time. Three years later she released Songs In a Minor and became a household name.

  • My.. She has GROWN since this performance..

  • Yesterday she performed this song at the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Xmas tree...She sounds a lot different today compared to this performance.

  • BDizzleNY06, you are too cool! I was there, my friend, when she performed the song at Crossover Studios in Atlanta. No joke! I've been thinking of that moment forever, hoping that someone out there had seen this amazing show.

    Much respect!

  • Glad you enjoyed the blast from the past SirReginald! It was such an amazing time watching this ten years ago knowing Alicia was destined for something great. No other R&B artist at the time looked, acted, or sounded like her...that is the makings of a star.

  • she does i feel like she has lost a little soul and r&b in her music latley u can tell the difference if u compare her old songs with her recent ones.

  • i remember watching this and she blew me away. i was like "who is this" i never thought i'd see it again. thanx for uploading.

  • She is just a baby here but so beautiful and sounding so very good. Love how she adds her own personal touch to every song. Never underestimate this lady. She is the best!

  • @BayeBwhy

    Damn

  • I hope her next album sounds more like her first two as well. The piano is her signature instrument; she needs to use it more! I still liked her last two albums, but they definitely had a different sound and style.

  • if you wanna see a little drummer girl, check out my page, i am a girl drummer. love this song by the way. much love, melanie xxx

  • she was going threw a struggle like err body else. this is the raw unpolished alicia..who she is now is her true self..u have to be humble yet guarded trying to make it and tuff appealing.thats y she was so gangsta.plus the 90s was just some real times who wouldnt be real in 1900-90s after 2003 ppl became so damn fake like kens and barbies

  • So young and sounding SO great! I don't know how she keeps getting better but she does. Keep doing your thing.

  • @TomatoBasil23 i understand artists can't keep doing the same thing and she's been in the game for a decade now, but if you're gonna change your style up, take a risk (good example is 'no one' as the single) rather than blend into the crowd and using synthetic production. Next thing you'll see is her using autotune coupled with a house music influenced beat. Her first two albums contained song-writing like I've never seen in contemporary rnb - so many quality metaphors for example.

  • @redemtorist22 I'm afraid I have to agree. Songs in A Minor and The Diary are classics ahead of their time. Whilst AIA and TEOF are solid albums with some impressive highlights, they haven't been classics like her first two albums were like. Whatever happened to the soulful ballads like 'if i aint got you' and 'fallin' where the piano highlighted the melody? A lot of her music these days relies on synthetic production, which is ironic given she became famous for not using this in the first place
