YouTube is filled with numerous renditions of Morgana's famous aria, "Tornami a vagheggiar" (indeed, I've uploaded one myself, my favorite version, in fact, sung by a young Joan Sutherland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwkMGyAexjw), a lively ABA aria of great charm and lively coloratura lines, but recently, as I was browsing through the selections, I noticed that one famous artist was somehow overlooked: Emma Kirkby. Thus, I find myself posting the singer's pure-voiced rendition. I cannot truly say that I prefer it to the already mentioned Sutherland recording but I find the contrast between the approaches refreshing, almost a comparison of two periods of understanding baroque music.

Hope you'll enjoy :).

  • Delicious and clear voice!! the best soprano coloratura and the most beautiful voice I´ve ever heard!! congratulations Dame Kirkby!!

  • Little gem!!! Can't stop pressing replay :-)

  • How interesting that this aria sounds a lot like the Melia's aria from Mozarts Apolo et Hyacinthus

  • @nicosupersex No I am not deaf ... and are your parents first cousins? Kirkby's tone is thin and monochromatic and neither you nor I can change that. Unless you have a crystal ball you cannot declare that "Sutherland would have been no one without her husband". Others have said the Schwarzkopf would have been no one without Walter Legge and Maria Callas would have been no one with Tullio Serafin.

  • @sutherland9 you must be deaf.... and Sutherland would have been no one without her husband, ha!!!!!

  • This is really sublime, Händel was truly inspired and this fantastic singer makes it seem very natural and heaven-sent!

  • fantastic voice :)

  • I don't know about you people out there, but my iMAC/Bose

fails miserably in the presentation of this magificent voice and deliverance of these notes.

In the words of Hugh Grant's roomate Spike.."THANK YOU GOD..."

    for George Fredrich Handel.
