Costa Concordia - Animated Timeline of Disaster

Animation of what happened in the Costa Concordia disaster.
The first mega cruise ship to sink, she ran aground after passing close to the island of Giglio to wave at crewmen's families on the island. This time, while turning near a coral outcrop, the stern struck the rocks while travelling at 15 knots, tearing a 100 foot hole below the waterline.

The captain lowered the anchor, swinging the ship and grounding her, enabling the rescue of 99.5% of the 4,000 people aboard.

All the fingers are pointed to the captain but at the time the ship hit the rock who is on watch....? Is the captain on watch at that time or somebody else that are incompetent to do his duties are on the watch. Every 15 mins they are checking the routes and this kind of ships has plotted routes that they only follow, its so stupid for an officer to be out of route in this particular ship. The duty office probably under the influence of alcohol or having sex on the bridge. So stupid.

My opinion, too. The impact was more south and the last phase the ship was already heading into the open sea again, before making a turn and heading towards the harbour of Giglio.
